Japan relaxes sanctions, some hybrid cars return to the Russian market
According to Vladivostok1.ru, Japan has decided to relax restrictions on some car exports to Russia, allowing some models equipped with "mild hybrid" systems (i.e. electric motors assisting traditional engines) to re-enter the Russian market. Such models only operate when the electric motor and the fuel engine work together, and cannot be driven by electricity alone.
The models lifted this time include not only Japanese-made vehicles, such as some hybrid models of brands such as Mazda, Mitsubishi, Honda, Suzuki and Nissan, but also some European brands, especially Mercedes-Benz. Many hybrid models of these brands are now available to Russian consumers.
In addition, models such as Honda Insight, Fit and CR-Z equipped with 1.5-liter engines have returned, and are expected to be favored in the Russian Far East and Siberia, where right-hand drive models are accepted. Previously, "Auto Vzglyad" also predicted that Japanese brands are expected to return to the Russian market.
Currently, except for mild hybrid models, Japan still prohibits the export of engine cars with a displacement of more than 1.9 liters, pure electric vehicles and other types of hybrid vehicles.
